DISABLED swings are set to be added to newly-refurbished parks in Renfrewshire.

The pieces of equipment will be put in place in Robertson Park in Renfrew and Barshaw Park in Paisley during the week commencing Monday, November 27.

Each park has recently received a £1million makeover.

Cllr John Shaw, Renfrew North and Braehead representative on Renfrewshire Council, pushed for the additional equipment in Robertson Park.

Cllr Shaw said: “It is great to hear the wheelchair swing I have pushed for in Robertson Park will be installed along with one in Barshaw Park.

“It’s not the ideal time of year for swings but I’m just glad to see it is going in after not being in the initial plans.”

The swing will be locked and only accessible by using a RADAR key which are available from Disability Rights UK.

Cllr Shaw has also asked council officers to look at installing CCTV in the park.

He added: “I have asked officers to look at the possibility of installing CCTV as a priority. This would likely have formed part of the phase two improvements but I feel there is a need now given the new equipment and residents worried about the park at night.”
