ATTENDANCES at sports development programmes run by West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust have topped the one million mark.

A new report which highlights the trust’s performance over the last financial year (2016/17) revealed more that almost 225,000 people participated in its programmes over the period.

The report also showed attendances over the past five years were all in the six figure region per annum – taking the five-year total to 1,058, 834.

The report also outlined a 3.8 per cent increase in the number of participants taking part in projects for disabled people.

The news has been welcomed by council Leader Jonathan McColl.

He told the Reporter: “The Leisure Trust has done a wonderful job in recent years, managing our leisure facilities and encouraging their use.

“They provide huge added value to our communities with the many programmes run for people of all ages and abilities across West Dunbartonshire.”

Cllr McColl added: “The work with our Active Schools team has been particularly beneficial for our children and young people and helps promote a healthier lifestyle for the next generation, the positive impact of which will last for years to come.”
