FANS of rock music are in for a treat next month when one of Scotland’s best known DJ’s rolls into town.

For Tom Russell will be at Dumbarton Library to regale an audience with tales of his time back in the day – when he rubbed shoulders from some of rock music’s biggest stars.

Tom will be talking about his book The Godfather of Rock which takes a look at some of his encounters with some truly international stars.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “Tom gives us a behind-the-scenes look at his life in rock and radio.

“He uncovered some of the great rock bands to come out of Scotland and has interviewed and spent time with some of the absolute legends: Robert Plant, Ozzy, ACDC, Genesis, Judas Priest, ZZ Top, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Rush, Motley Crue, Journey, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Black Stone Cherry, Alterbridge and many many more.”

Tom who was born and educated in Kirkintilloch.

He also spent some time in the Parachute Regiment (UK) before running a chain of his own record shops.

His broadcasting career took off when Richard Park invited him to Radio Clyde in 1981 and he was a resident DJ for nearly 25 years where he hosted the long running Friday Night Rock Show.

Tom will be at Dumbarton Library on Thursday, December 7 from 7.30pm and entry to the event is free but is ticketed.

A spokesman for the event organisers said: “The Godfather of Rock is a fantastic read and great insight into the emergence of rock through the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.

“Tom is still immersed in the business and remains a major influence right up to the present day.

“This is a great opportunity to hear from Tom and hear some amazing anecdotes about the great rock legends.”
