IT was full steam ahead for train fanatics as they enjoyed a day of all things railway.

Members of the Renfrewshire Model Railway Club showed off their intricate creations to hundreds of visitors at their base near Elderslie Village Hall, in Stoddard Square.

There was also a bouncy castle and a merry-go-round to keep youngsters entertained.

Club chairman Kenny Bell was delighted to see people of all ages coming along to the event.

He told The Gazette: “The day was organised by the club and the local Scouts and it turned out to be really busy.

“We had three big model railways to show off, plus a Lego model.

“The kids absolutely love it and we are obviously very passionate about what we do. It’s a really relaxing hobby, despite being time-consuming.

“All of the models were largely hand-crafted.

“We’re hoping to stage another equally successful event in Johnstone in January.”

Johnstone Town Hall will be the place to be in the new year for fans of the iron road, with further details of that event to be released nearer the time.

If anyone is interested in joining the club, members meet in Elderslie on Mondays and Fridays, from 7pm until 10pm.

At the moment, members must be aged 16 or over, although there are plans to change this rule in the future, so that younger people can join the club.
