COMMUTERS have experienced delays around Renfrewshire today as the country battled with snow and ice on the roads.

Drivers and people travelling on buses were stuck in traffic jams leading right out of Paisley town centre.

One of the worst areas of congestion ran from Caplethill Road into the town centre which left McGill's bus services 26, 51, 54 and 66 experiencing delays.

There were also drivers experiencing problems in Locher Road in Bridge of Weir and in Houston Road.

However, Renfrewshire Council staff were out in force with specialist gritting vehicles and snow ploughs in an effort to clear roads as best as possible.

A council spokesman said: "All services are operating as normal on and all schools remain open.

"We have a team of specialist gritting vehicles and snow ploughs which have been out and about providing a 24 hour response to snow and ice.

“Town centres have been gritted with snow removed.

“Our gritters treat more than 800km of road and 1200km of pavement across Renfrewshire.

"Please take care when outside during the adverse weather and check train, bus and traffic updates online before setting out on any journeys."

The winter operations team were also out at Glasgow Airport, which remained open with only a couple of flights being cancelled.
