A MAN accused of killing dad-of-three Craig McClelland was spotted on CCTV buying alcohol on the day he is suspected of carrying out the murder, a court heard.

James Wright, 25, and Stuart McLellan, 28, have gone on trial this week at the High Court in Glasgow accused of murdering Mr McClelland in Tweed Avenue, Foxbar, Paisley, on July 23 last year, which they both deny.

McLellan also denies attempting to pervert the course of justice by hiding a top worn by him.

Shop owner Saif Buksh, 21, was working in his off licence at Ferguslie Main Road on the day of the killing and said Wright, a regular customer who he knows as Jamie, came in with a friend that evening.

He said the men came in around 8pm and he served Wright alcohol, and that Buckfast was Wright's 'usual'.

Looking at the footage of the men entering the shop, Mr Buksh described Wright as wearing shorts, a zipper, a hat and white trainers and the other man as having a grey tracksuit and wearing blue gloves, as well as having a JD sports bag with him.

He said he served Wright, and phoned a taxi for them.

CCTV from inside the shop was played to the court of the men in the off licence and Wright at the counter area.

Advocate depute Paul Brown asked: “You have just put something on the counter, what's that?”

Mr Buksh replied: “Buckfast.” He confirmed it was a half bottle.

Jurors watched CCTV of the men leaving and getting into a taxi and heard they were taken to a property at Leitchland Road, Paisley.

The trial before judge Lord Matthews continues.
