THERE was an extra splash of colour to this year’s Houston and Killellan Kirk Carnival...as the event adopted a Blue Planet theme.
Hundreds of people flocked to Saturday’s big bash, raising more than £10,000 for the church and local community.
Families were treated to an array of attractions, including food stalls, games and the unveiling of the carnival king and queen, Angus Feeley and Abigail Nelson.
Leading the parade were members of the 1st Houston Boys’ Brigade Band, who were followed by people of all ages who were sporting fishy fancy dress and carrying posters about the importance of keeping our oceans clean.
Maggie Deans, joint co-ordinator of the carnival, said: “The inspiration for this year’s carnival came partly because Blue Planet was on television recently but also because we care about the environment here, with several groups, such as the Litter Pickers and Bee Happy, working to keep our streets clean.”
