STAFF and pupils at Renfrew High are celebrating after receiving a glowing report card from Education Scotland inspectors.

The school was praised for its “strong leadership” and inspectors also highlighted the commitment of staff to promoting positive and nurturing relationships.

There was praise, too, for the school’s approach to looking after pupils’ wellbeing and ensuring their needs are met.

There have also been improvements in the number of pupils achieving Higher passes.

The inspectors said: “The headteacher and his senior team are highly committed to driving the school forward.

“The strong vision of the headteacher in putting young people at the centre of the work

of the school has been an ongoing focus for school leaders and is driving the agenda

for improvement.”

The Education Scotland team said it was confident the school would only continue to improve and no other visits are planned in connection with the inspection.

Headteacher Billy Burke said he is especially pleased the school’s commitment to students’ wellbeing was noticed. He added: “We are delighted with the report, which shows the strong commitment of staff, pupils and parents to work together towards ongoing improvement.

“The increasingly positive attainment and the achievement of our learners was recognised but more pleasing was the recognition for how the wellbeing of our young people is at the heart of everything we do. We believe strongly you can’t learn and achieve if you’re not at your best.

“It also noted how positively young people think about their school and they really believe in our values of care, fairness, respect and trust.
