One of serial killer Peter Tobin’s nieces was spared jail this week for plaguing the police with fake crime reports.

Charlene Jackson, 30, repeatedly cried wolf by making bogus 999 calls in January and last month.

Jackson, of Charles Avenue, Renfrew, hounded Police Scotland with calls on January 24 and May 13, 2018.

Last month she pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking Section 127(2)(a) of the Communications Act 2003 by making the prank calls in May.

On Monday she returned to the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court to be sentenced for the May prank calls and, during the hearing, she pleaded guilty to a charge of making the January prank calls.

Last month, Sheriff Colin Pettigrew told her to stay out of trouble until her next court appearance.

And on Monday the sheriff deferred sentence further until August for Jackson to continue to be of good behaviour.
