THOUSANDS of people braved the rain for a fun-filled Bishopton Gala Day at the weekend.

It may have been a soggy one, but nothing could dampen the spirits of the visitors who were determined the show must go on.

And as the theme for this year was ‘oceans’, it seemed rather fitting for visitors to get a little bit wet.

Jim Blair, chairperson of organisers Bishopton Week group, said: “The parade was the thing mostly affected by the rain but it was still pretty popular.

“The weather did improve throughout the day thankfully.

“The theme was oceans so I guess it was fitting in a way to have some water about.

“We had people coming from all over Renfrewshire and some from Glasgow too.

“I reckon there was more than 3,000 people there as we sold 1,500 tickets and children got in free.

“Everyone who was there seemed to enjoy themselves.”

The parade was led by St Colomba’s Pipe Band from Kilmacolm and the Glasgow Vikings also made an appearance.

The entertainment on the day included a children’s tent with a magician dishing out the tricks plus all the classics including tombola and a variety of stalls.

There was also plenty of live music to enjoy.

Mr Blair added: “We are thoroughly looking forward to holding the day again next year.”
