A MAN has been banned from entering Bishopton amid claims he held a knife at his girlfriend's throat and threatened her and others with violence.

Christopher Duncan is said to have hurled abuse at his partner Kerry Tannahill, causing her to take refuge in a bathroom to escape him.

He faced two charges when he appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday.

Duncan denies assaulting Miss Tannahill in Lyle Crescent, Bishopton, on Saturday by raining blows on her head with his hand, pulling her hair, throwing water at her and repeatedly holding a knife at her neck while threatening her, her family and a four-year-old child, who can't be identified for legal reasons.

He also denies a second charge of shouting, swearing and acting aggressively towards her and smashing a bathroom door after she took refuge inside.

Procurator fiscal depute Meghan Glancey said Crown Office prosecutors were opposing bail on the basis of the alleged offence.

She told the court: "The complainer states she is now in fear of her life. She was repeatedly threatened with a knife and threats were made against her family and a four-year-old child."

Sheriff Susan Sinclair released Duncan, of Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, on special bail conditions banning him from entering Bishopton or approaching or contacting Miss Tannahill.

A trial has been set for August, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled to take place next month.
