DRIVERS are being warned about fast lane closures on the Erskine Bridge this weekend.

The closure will be in place from 4am to 12pm this Sunday and the following Sunday, July 15.

The closure will allow routine inspection and maintenance painting of the bridge's supporting cables to take place.

Peter McCann, Scotland TranServ’s major bridges manager said: “Earlier this year we installed a number of access hatches to the bridge deck, making it far easier for our workers and contractors to access the towers and supporting cables.

"Because of this we won’t require the same extent of traffic management as last year’s similar cable painting programme.

“We have worked closely with local authorities and major stakeholders to schedule the programme around the busy summer season, avoiding major events and at a time that shouldn’t impact too greatly on the travelling public.

"Our experienced contractors, Spencer Group and COWI will capitalise on the earlier sunrise to carry out these establishing works. Once the cradle is secured in place there will be no further impact on the travelling public while works are completed.”

Scotland TranServ’s traffic flow modellers estimate delays of up to 20 minutes on both mornings.

Bluetooth traffic monitoring will be used to relay live information to Traffic Scotland who will keep drivers informed through overhead gantry signs, on social media at @trafficscotland and on their website trafficscotland.org.
