NEW plans to replace Elderslie’s rusting play park have been announced.

The Queen’s Road park has been ‘left to rot’ with only a couple of swings available, according to residents.

But the ambitious new proposals by the community council would see the old park replaced with modern facilities.

Anne Marie Balfour, treasurer, said: “The park has not been maintained and it has been falling apart for years. Elderslie has not received the investment it has deserved for a long time and we want to change that.

“We sent out a survey and it became clear a park was one thing residents really wanted to see.”

The plans for the park also include space for exercise equipment and gardening areas.

Mrs Balfour added: “We have a lot of plans for Elderslie, but need support to make them a reality.

“We will also be talking to the community council in Linwood to get their advice, as they have had such great success in recent times.

“I expect the council might kick off about these plans, but we are some determined ladies.”

Council chiefs insisted they had set aside a £1.5million fund to help communities improve green spaces and playparks.

Councillor Cathy McEwan, convener of environment and infrastructure, added: “Our staff regularly inspect all our playparks to make sure equipment is properly maintained.

“We will work with communities so they can make sure the fund is targeted at the places where they believe it can have the most impact.

We would be happy to provide advice to residents as to how they can access this funding."

Fundraising for the park will start in September with events to be confirmed.
