A BISHOPTON teenager was given top marks a decade ago as he gained an impressive haul of five As in his school exams.

Alistair Paterson, who was a fifth year pupil at Park Mains High, in Erskine, was delighted with the results from his Higher exams.

The 17-year-old, who lived in Old Greenock Road, said at the time: “I’m really pleased with my results as I worked hard.

“My subjects were English, maths, music, chemistry and German and I’m going to continue them.”

Headteacher Bob Fawkes added: “We are delighted with Alistair’s success, as we are with the success of many of our young people.”

The talented teen hoped his music prowess would lead to an exciting career.

Alistair was one of thousands of high-achieving Renfrewshire pupils whose exam performance was described as “very encouraging” by education chiefs.

Councillor Lorraine Cameron, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s education board at the time, said: “Figures show that, compared to previous years, by the end of sixth year, more pupils left school with more qualifications. Equally, we have maintained our performance in relation to passes in standard grade English and maths.

“For the third year running, there has been a slight gain in the percentage of our pupils in fifth year gaining three or more Highers.”
