Residents will be able to find out more about changes to their bin collections as a roadshow travels across Renfrewshire next month.

A team of waste advisors will be on hand to explain the changes and answer any questions people may have.

From November, a new green bin will be delivered to households in Renfrewshire to further separate recycling.

All plastic, cans and glass should be placed in the new green bin, with paper and cardboard to be left in existing blue bins.

There will be no change to the brown bin collection, which will continue to be collected fortnightly.

However, grey bins for general waste will only be emptied once every three weeks, instead of the current fortnightly collection – a move which has led to criticism of Renfrewshire Council amid concerns that some rubbish will be left to pile up before being collected.

Councillor Cathy McEwan, convener of Renfrewshire’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said the increasing costs of disposal and the demand for an improved quality of recycling mean changes are necessary.

She added: “We recognise that residents will want to find out what the change means for them, which is why we are carrying out an extensive number of roadshows across Renfrewshire.

“We want to ensure everyone has an opportunity to speak to our waste advisors, ask any questions which they may have and be fully prepared for the service changing later this year.

“Please take the opportunity to attend as we look to make the transition into the new service as smooth as possible.”

The changes are due to take place in November and December.

Before then, residents will receive an information guide, collection calendar and stickers illustrating what should go in each bin.

The first stop for the roadshow is Howwood Community Centre on Monday September 3, from 4pm until 7pm, with the last stop taking place at Glenburn Library, in Paisley, on Saturday, September 22, from 2pm until 5pm.

In between, there will be visits to Johnstone, Bishopton, Houston, Renfrew, Bridge of Weir, Elderslie, Linwood, Kilbarchan, Langbank, Lochwinnoch and Erskine.
