AN eyesore former soft drinks factory in Lochwinnoch is to be turned into housing.


Plans from Turnberry Homes to build 24 houses and nine flats at the derelict Krystal Klear plant have been rubber-stamped by council chiefs.


However, the current buildings at the Church Street site will not be demolished until guarantees have been made that redevelopment will begin immediately afterwards.

Objections were raised to the demolishing, warning against eradicating ‘the one remaining element representing the industrial character of that part of Lochwinnoch’.


Head of planning and housing Fraser Carlin’s report said: “It should be noted the dilapidated nature of the site and buildings is having a detrimental effect on the surrounding properties.

“Turnberry Homes proposes to redevelop the site to provide a new development of houses and flats which would respond appropriately to the surrounding context.”


Lochwinnoch Community Council said it welcomes the development, given that it is a ‘brownfield site that has been derelict for 10 years’.
