A GROUP of African children have travelled to Scotland to sing and dance their way into the public’s heart.
The Singing Children of Africa, a group of Kenyan schoolkids, were in Renfrew last Friday and Monday at Renfrew High and Kirklandneuk Primary performing on their Believe tour.
Schools in Barrhead have also been collecting uniforms and other items for the group, which will be donated to the 800 pupils at the children’s school in Utange, near Mombasa, in Kenya.

The Singing Children of Africa are part of the charity Educate the Kids, which was founded in 1998. The charity’s vision is to ensure that children in Africa have their needs met, their rights upheld, and their dreams fulfilled through education.
Charity founder Maureen McIntyre said: “The schools that we visit find the events to be very beneficial, as the schoolchildren learn about Africa and education there.
“We are now looking at setting up Skype sessions between Scotland and Kenya to keep up the links.

“You see a notable difference in the singers’ confidence and their English from performing.”
The Singing Children of Africa are currently at the beginning of their three-month Believe tour of the UK, travelling as far north as Aberdeen and south to Derbyshire.
