PUPILS from Barsail Primary school added a splash of colour to their day by creating a human rainbow for charity.

The youngsters paid £1 to substitute their school uniform with vibrant coloured outfits as part of the charity event.

The whole school got behind the fundraising drive and every class wore a different colour for the day.

The event was organised by captains and vice captains of school house teams Skye and Bute.

Emma Mavers, Barsail Primary School’s acting depute said it was a “fantastic achievement” for Zoe McInnes, Matthew Smith, Ross Martin and Cameron Finnie who organised the event.

The P7 pupils organised everything from deciding which charities to support, informing parents of the event, reminding classes to wear their colours and even agreed to have wet sponges thrown at them to maximise the amount of money raised.

The school had several stalls on the day including a hook a duck, nail painting, guess how many sweets are in the jar and an eco clothes stall.

The proceeds will now be split between the Rainbow Valley charity, Erskine Hospital and Calum’s Cabin.

Emma said: “The children had a ball. There was a buzz throughout the school all day.”

The event was rounded off with a whole school assembly where representatives from the Rainbow Valley charity and Erskine Hospital came along to talk to pupils.

Angela MacVicar, who established Rainbow Valley following the death of her daughter Johanna from leukaemia spoke to pupils about the charity which supports people with cancer.

While Mrs Kirkwood, whose husband was treated by Erskine Hospital spoke about the work of the Erskine who care for ex-Service men and women in Scotland.

Emma added: “You could hear a pin drop while they were talking about the charities. The children listened intently and were so well behaved.”
