Erskine Community Events held its first event of 2016 – an Easter extravaganza

The Park Mains High School event attracted more than 1000 people and, despite the rainy weather, the atmosphere was electric.

The group organise events with the ethos ‘By the Community, For the Community’.

This year their chosen charity was Renfrewshire Foodbank which saw them collect a huge amount of food and a cheque for £500.

Locals decorated Easter bonnets and eggs to take part in competitions to win giant eggs donated by local supermarkets Morrisons and Spar.

Prizes were awarded by Jonathan Fleming, Rhys Gaughan and Abi McConville, winners of Citizen of the Year, a title presented at the annual Gala Day.

Winners were selected and all of the entries were presented with a chocolate egg as a reward for their hard work.

Kids enjoyed answering Easter-themed questions for the opportunity to exchange their paper eggs for chocolate ones, which were provided by local jeweller Tom Wylie.

Despite the downpour the kids happily took part in the egg and spoon race and were delighted to be able to eat the chocolate egg afterwards.

There were also over 35 stalls offering everything from bath bombs to home baking and sweeties.

Secretary Jacqui Reid said: “We were absolutely delighted with the number of people who came along to support the event, especially given that the weather was so atrocious.

“From the comments we had on the day our events are perceived to be affordable for families and are so popular because we include activities for all ages.

“We can’t wait for the Gala Week in the summer.”
