TWO gifted singer-songwriters from Erskine have performed exclusively for The Gazette.

Lucy Connor and Mirin McCaffray, both aged 15, recorded themselves singing an acoustic cover of Amy Winehouse’s classic hit Valerie.

The Trinity High School pupils have been performing for three years and their latest video is another fine example of what they have to offer.

After meeting in school, the duo decided to begin posting footage of themselves singing online.

Several well-received clips later, the pair have amassed more than 2,000 Twitter followers and have close to 200 subscribers on YouTube.

Lucy and Mirin were originally inspired to post their covers online by Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer.

They now regularly take their guitars to the centre of Glasgow and can be seen busking on the city’s Buchanan Street at the weekends.

Lucy said: “We were fans of 5 Seconds of Summer and saw that their videos on YouTube allowed them to get to where they are now. We only started busking last October. It’s more relaxed because people aren’t just standing watching you.

“They walk by and smile at us and tell us to just keep doing what we’re doing. We just want to keep gigging.”

The youngsters also enjoy performing in more intimate settings and take to the microphones at Café Blend in Paisley every second Friday through the Create Paisley youth initiative.

Having played to crowds at the Paisley Beer Festival and Erskine Gala Day, the teenagers prefer indie music but are not afraid to try their hand at other genres.

Some of the artists they have chosen to cover include: Justin Bieber, Elvis Presley, Maroon 5, Paramore and Ed Sheeran.

Lucy and Mirin have also written two songs of their own titled ‘Two Worlds’ and ‘Broken Promises’.
