CROOKS have been targeting vulnerable people in Erskine and conning them out of hundreds of pounds.

Two cold callers, pretending to be workmen, have been doing the rounds in the area and have managed to swindle an elderly couple out of hundreds of pounds.

The men are claiming roofs are damaged or in need of urgent repair.

A few people have lost money already and the police have been informed.

Residents have been asked to keep an eye out for older neighbours or anyone who may be at risk.

Chief Inspector Simon Wright who is the Area Commander based at Johnstone said:  “Most recently we had a house in Erskine targeted on Thursday, September 1 at around 9am.

“A man came to the door pretending to be from a roofing company and claiming there was damage to the roof.

“He then went to the roof and charged the elderly couple hundreds of pounds for repair work

“We were contacted and it turns out that the man isn't from a roofing company and there was no repair to be made.

“We are treating this as a bogus crime.

“No one should accept any form of trading from someone who comes to their door seeking work unless they have actually phoned.

“If anyone is in doubt, do not give them access to the house and phone the police immediately.”
