DISCOVERY: The dead horse found belonged to Erskine stables KL Liveries.

AN ERSKINE stables is under fire after a passer-by made a gruesome discovery.

An animal lover contacted The Gazette after she found a dead horse covered up in one of KL Liveries" fields.

She said: 'While walking past one of the fields with my friend, I noticed what looked like a big bundle of rags but something just didn"t seem right about it.

'I went into the field to investigate and to our horror we found a dead horse underneath stable rugs and a plastic sheet.

'It appears to have been deliberately concealed while other horses roamed freely in the same field.

'As I am a horse rider myself I know that it is illegal to have a dead horse in the field especially if other horses are still able to roam.'

The woman immediately contacted the police when she claims she came across the horrifying sight on Tuesday January 20 at around 11.30pm.

She also claims she has been forced to contact police to report the stable"s owners on several occasions for allegedly letting horses escape from her fields - posing a danger to themselves and motorists.

The source took photographs from a nearby public path to form a complaint to environmental health and the SSPCA.

A spokesperson for the SSPCA said: 'The horse was put to sleep by a vet on the Tuesday night and unfortunately, that was outwith the hours of a local knackery.

'The animal was collected the next morning - this was just an unfortunate incident.'

Police confirmed a call was received but no action has been taken.

The Gazette attempted to contact the stable"s owner but no one was available at the time of going to press.
