The school, alongside Gardener’s Leave, Erskine hospital’s veteran’s rehabiltion gardening group, planted trees and flowers around the school grounds using only sourced recycled material.

Tyres for planting in were donated by the local Kwik-Fit and all other resources were also donated or recycled.

Fiona McAskill, prinicpal teacher and the school’s eco co-ordinator, said: “The kids had a fantastic time and it has helped build a strong sense of community around the school.

“It is great to build up these partnerships with local organisations and it serves the local area well.

“It was the kids’ choice to take part and we constantly look for new ways to keep the school green. The veterans came along from Erskine Hospital and helped to lift and plant while the kids painted the tyres to make it look appealing and colourful in the grounds.

“The people from Gardener’s Leave were a fantastic help, great with the kids and loved coming along to give them a hand.”
