Jasmine Aikman, from Erskine, was joint first in the chemistry exam, which over 10,500 pupils across Scotland sat last May.

Commenting on her achievement, the 17-year-old pupil at the High School of Glasgow, said: “Chemistry is a subject that I have always been keen on.

“I hope this award will be a good basis for the future as I am keen to study medicine at university.” Scottish Government Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland’s Languages, Dr Alasdair Allan MSP presented the Award to Jasmine at a special ceremony in Edinburgh during a Science and Parliament event.

The event highlighted the contribution of science and engineering to society.

Colin Mair, Rector of the High School of Glasgow, said: “We are very proud of Jasmine’s impressive achievement and delighted that she is a recipient of the Royal Society of Chemistry Award.”
