Sloshed Paul Fox returned to his home in the town’s Mains Drive on Saturday night — and lost the rag with his wife’s son.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard that Fox’s stepson had lost his job and there had been “a build-up of tension” due to resulting “financial problems.” Maureen McGovern, prosecuting, told the court that a drunken Fox returned to the home he shared with his wife and her two adult children at 10.30pm on Saturday night.

She said: “He had consumed alcohol and was noted to be heavily intoxicated and appeared agitated.

“He went into the kitchen and was muttering to himself.

“He was angry he could not find a loaf for something to eat.

“He began shouting upstairs, ‘You’re an a*******’, directed at his stepson.

“His stepson shouted on the accused to stop calling him that.

“This angered the accused, who ran up the stairs just as his step-son closed his door.

“He began banging on it with his fists and his feet and shouting to his stepson that he was going to kill him.” His wife and stepdaughter tried to calm him down but he told them to “shut up” and continued banging on his stepson’s door.

His stepdaughter then took out her phone to try and call the police but Fox grabbed the phone off her, so she left and went to a pal’s house so she could contact them.

Fox then ran down the stairs, out onto the veranda of the property and tried to climb up the side of the building towards his step-son’s window.

The police arrived just after 11.15pm and Fox was arrested and held in custody until Monday, when he appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court.

He pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner which placed his stepson in a state of fear or alarm.

Terry Gallanagh, defending, told the court that he was a 42-year-old who had no previous convictions.

He said Fox was “fairly contrite” and thought he may have behaved in the way he did because he had drank whilst taking new medication.

He added: “He fully accepts he consumed the alcohol and got himself into the condition he was in.” Sheriff Seith Ireland released Fox on bail to a homeless unit, telling him he could return home to live with his wife and her kids if she would have him back.

He deferred sentenced for three months and told Fox to stay out of trouble.

He will return to court in May to learn his fate.
