A Johnstone duo are facing trial accused of battering a shopkeeper in the town.

Andrew Cameron and Margaret Taylor are said to have carried out the attack last month.

Prosecutors allege they set upon the man, who runs Quarry Street store Johnstone Licensed Grocers, in Church Street.

Court papers claim they chased Sardar from a property in Church Street out in to the street, grabbed hold of him, rained punched on him, knocked him to the ground and repeatedly kicked him on the head and body.

They were arrested in connection with the alleged Monday, May 30 attack on Sardar and were held in custody pending a court appearance.

They appeared from custody at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday, June 2, charged with assaulting the man to his injury.

Both, who live at different addresses in Ferguson Street, denied the single charge against them. They were granted bail ahead of the trial, which is due to take place in September.

A pre-trial hearing was also scheduled for August.
