A PETROL bomb was thrown through the window of a Howwood house and into an occupied living room.

The incident happened at Old Howwood Road on Wednesday, January 25 at 11pm.

A 59-year-old man was sitting in his home when the flaming missile smashed through the window.

It ignited the living room carpet but was quickly extinguished.

The man in the house was not injured but has been left very badly shaken.

Apart from the carpet, there has not been much damage.

The house is on the same road as the St Vincent's Hospice in a semi rural area, near a track between Howwood and Spateston. 

Detective inspector Sandy Nelson said: "A flammable article was thrown through the window of a house.

"The man in the house got a serious fright but luckily was not harmed as a result.

"We have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are looking at CCTV in the area.

"Police have yet to determine a motive behind this incident.

"We ask if anyone was in the area at this time to please come forward with any information."
