A MAN is in a stable condition in hospital after he was repeatedly stabbed in front of shocked commuters on a busy high street this morning.

The victim, 22, was targeted by the knife thug in Johnstone's High Street at around 9.45am.

Police say he suffered shoulder and neck injuries.

His attacker fled the scene and it is understood that area was busy with commuters at the time. 

The victim was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

It is understood that cops are conducting door to door enquiries in a bid to track down the attacker.
