IT may only be July but there was plenty of festive spirit on show as a Johnstone-based theatre group staged some fundraising fun.

Members of the St Paul’s Church Dramatic Society welcomed guests to an afternoon tea to coin in cash to help meet the costs of their latest production.

Audiences can look forward to enjoying the group’s version of the classic Irving Berling musical White Christmas when the curtain rises in November.

And the afternoon tea provided a major funding boost, with hundreds of pounds being raised.

Those who went along were able to tuck into a variety of tasty treats, including cakes, sandwiches and scones with jam and cream.

There was even some prosecco to wash it all down with.

Bargain hunters were also out in force, browsing through stalls selling everything from bric-a-brac to jewellery.

Linda Rae, secretary of St Paul’s Church Dramatic Society, said: “We managed to raise £365, which will go towards our production of White Christmas.

“We still have a bit more left to raise but we’ll be hosting another event after the summer holidays.

“Shoppers enjoyed visiting the stalls and the afternoon tea went down a treat.

“It was a great event, supported by friends and family of the drama group.”

White Christmas will be staged at Johnstone Town Hall from November 1 to 4.
