A JOHNSTONE restaurant is to whet customers’ appetites with a six-course fine-dining menu...and serve up a boost for a Grenfell Tower disaster fund at the same time.

Papamacs chef and proprietor Scott Keenan was left heartbroken while watching the aftermath of the tragic blaze in London, which left at least 80 people dead.

And with hundreds more still homeless and desperately needing support, Scott has decided to don his chef’s apron and join forces with his produce suppliers to put on a charity fine-dining night on Saturday.

For £30, diners will sample the very best produce from Papamacs, a restaurant offering seasonal, locally-produced food, all prepared and cooked from fresh in-house.

Scott, 40, told the Gazette: “Everyone at Papamacs has been left heartbroken by the tragic events at Grenfell Tower and we wanted to do something to help those still suffering and without a home.

“We have decided to put on a charity fundraising night and 100 per cent of all food sales will go to the Red Cross London Fire Relief Fund as they are working directly with the residents affected.

“Fundamentally, the main reason for us doing it, excluding the tragedy itself, is that the way the residents have been treated in the wake of the fire is just as big a tragedy.

“It would appear that they have largely been left to fend for themselves and also been left in the dark about many things that they need or deserve.

“It’s for this reason that we are hosting our fine-dining charity night.

“The reason for the six-course tasting menu is the fact that each of our suppliers will have their own course on the menu that will be dedicated to them, in recognition of the fact they donated the ingredients to make the team effort happen.”

Diners will start off with a champagne and yuzu sorbet amuse bouche, with the champagne being supplied by Allied Fine Wines.

For the fish dish, guests will be treated to a trio of Tay-caught salmon, courtesy of The Fish People.

Next up will be a delicious slow-braised ox presse from Davidsons Butchers.

Diners will then tuck into Bishopton pea and watercress arinci, supplied by Seasonal Produce.

For dessert, guests will enjoy a mouth-watering salted caramel and dark callebaut cremaux, with glazed vanilla marshmallow and burnt orange, milk callebaut macaroon, courtesy of Braehead Foods.

And to finish it all off, Scott will treat guests to a green tea micro sponge, with the tea donated by Jenier Teas and the coffee espuma ingredients supplied by Espresso Addesso.

Scott said: “We are hoping for a full house and I appeal to the people of Johnstone and Renfrewshire to come along, enjoy our fine-dining menu and, at the same time, help those who are desperately in need.”
