A JOHNSTONE nursery has made improvements to its quality of care and environment, according to watchdogs.

The Care Inspectorate has published its findings following a visit to Gleniffer Nursery, in Floors Street.

It praised staff as “committed” to ensuring the children’s learning needs were met and graded the nursery as “good” in both quality of care and environment.

The nursery had previously been graded as “adequate” in these areas.

However, inspectors still felt the quality of staffing and management was no better than “adequate.”

The report states: “During our inspection, we saw children confidently made choices about their learning, appropriately supported by staff who were committed to ensuring children learning needs were met.

“Staff could be better at observing and recording children’s individual learning and developmental needs. Staff recognised the importance of the outdoor learning environment and told us they wanted to develop outdoor learning.

“At points during the inspection, staff encouraged children to be independent. They could develop this further.”

Inspectors also praised displays around the nursery as “attractive and meaningful to the children.”

They added: “The nursery playroom was bright, well maintained, had good quality furniture and resources.”
