SECURITY will be ramped up at a popular Johnstone community centre after vandals set fire to kids’ trampolines for the second time in a matter of weeks.

The equipment is used by members of the youth club based at Johnstone Castle Community Learning Centre, in Pine Crescent.

The attack has angered club organisers who now hope the trampolines – which were only recently bought – can be replaced.

Jean Gallagher, a volunteer at the youth club, said: “It’s the second time in five weeks. The first set was damaged by kids coming into the grounds after hours.

“We will try to replace the trampolines and will look at folding ones so they can be brought inside.”

Renfrewshire Leisure boss Joyce McKellar said the culprits were hurting their own community.

She added: “Renfrewshire Leisure is currently reviewing the security measures at Johnstone Castle Community Learning Centre to see what, if any, improvements could be made.

“The community warden team has also been alerted to the situation at the learning centre and warden patrols will continue to monitor the area with further support provided by Police Scotland.”

Police are also checking CCTV to try to find those responsible.
