An investigation has been launched following a deliberate fire in a block of flats in Johnstone.

The blaze happened on Monday at around 5.45am in High Street.

Emergency services attended and a 24-year-old man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Enquiries carried out so far have revealed the fire was deliberately set in the middle landing area between two flats.

Detectives are now checking CCTV from in and around the area for further information.

Detective Constable Grant Spy said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have noticed anything which at the time did not seem unusual but which may seem more significant following the fire.

"Perhaps you saw someone hanging around the area, perhaps you noticed someone running away around the time of the incident.
