HUNDREDS of train enthusiasts got on board for the latest show staged by the Renfrewshire Model Railway Club.

Members of the Elderslie-based club, together with groups from further afield, displayed their impressive creations.

Around 400 guests descended on Johnstone Town Hall over two days, where they were able to enjoy 15 model railways.

A Lego model and Scalextric were also on display, much to the delight of kids and adults alike.

Club chairman Kenny Bell was happy to see people of all ages coming along to the event.

He told The Gazette: “It was very busy on both days, with lots of families coming along on the Sunday.

“As well as our own layouts, we had groups coming from other clubs in Cupar, Perth, Ayr and Kilmarnock.

“Each of the layouts was internationally orientated. Our layout had an American theme, while there were also Swiss, Irish and German displays.

“In addition to the 15 layouts, there were six trade stands selling the likes of books and models.”

The club is based at Elderslie Village Hall but decided to stage its latest show at a bigger venue as the displays become increasingly popular.

Kenny added: “We have a few shows planned for the coming weeks.

“We always welcome new members so, if anyone is considering coming along, please get in touch.”

Meetings take place on Mondays and Fridays, from 7pm until 10pm.

At the moment, members must be aged 16 or over, although there are plans to change this rule in the future, so that younger people can join the club.
