A TAXI driver was taken to hospital following a two-car crash in Johnstone town centre.
Passers-by watched as a private hire car operated by Johnstone TOA was involved in a collision with a white Vauxhall Astra.
The incident took place on the town’s High Street, near the Lidl supermarket, at around 10.20pm on Friday.
After receiving hospital treatment, the driver of the red Skoda cab was released.
Inspector Cassie Glass, who is based at Johnstone Police Station, told The Gazette: “A white Vauxhall Astra and red Skoda taxi were involved in a collision on Friday evening.
“Police attended and dealt with the road accident, as well as directing traffic.
“The cab driver was taken to hospital and police are investigating the incident.
“The driver of the Vauxhall Astra has been charged with road traffic offences.”
A spokeswoman for Johnstone TOA added: “On Friday evening, one of our cabs was involved in a collision on Johnstone High Street.
“Our driver was taken to hospital and later released. This matter is currently under investigation by police.”
