POLICE have cordoned off an area in Johnstone Castle, following a serious assault involving a knife.

The incident took place near Maple Drive in the early hours of Monday morning, at around midnight.

An ambulance was called to the area and investigations are currently under way.

Officers confirmed that one of the two victims was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital with injuries.

Sergeant Alan Mack, who is based in Johnstone Police office, said: "Police were called to an area near Maple Drive just after midnight.

"Two men were seriously assaulted and one has been taken to hospital with injuries.

"We have still to trace the person responsible for the attack."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: “We received a call at 12.44am on Monday, March 26 to attend an address on Elm Drive in Johnstone.

“We dispatched one ambulance to the scene and one patient was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.”
