A 51-YEAR-OLD woman was rushed to hospital after getting caught up in a huge pub fight in Johnstone.

Around 30 thugs were seen trashing the Nip Inn at 7.30pm on Saturday night by breaking windows, throwing bricks and chairs.

The neds who are said to be in their 20s, smashed up tables and chairs which were sitting outside the Houston Square pub and tried to bombard their way inside.

A source claims young punters from Paisley were responsible for the riot at the popular watering hole, which forced scared females to hide in the toilets to avoid getting hurt in the brawl.

One of the regulars from High Street said: "There were loads of faces I didn't recognise and it all just got out of hand when some of them were asked for ID.

"They went to leave but trouble kicked off as they were approaching the door.

"The women customers were terrified as the guys started throwing stuff about in all directions.

"It's normally fine in here - you don't see much trouble, but it got completely out of hand."

Several people suffered head injuries as a result of the terrifying attack but only the female victim is thought to have required hospital treatment.

The fight which resulted in over £1,000 pounds worth of damage was broken up a few minutes later when local cops rushed to the scene.

Officers have been studying CCTV footage which shows four males running from the scene in the direction of William Street.

One man was arrested in alleged conjunction with the incident but cops are appealing for any further information that could help with their enquiries.

A Strathclyde Police spokesman said: "We are appealing to Gazette readers to come forward if they know who initiated this fight, which resulted in a considerable amount of damage to the premises.

"The area would have been fairly busy at the time, so someone must know who is responsible."

If you know anything that could help the police with their enquiries, please phone 01505 404000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity is guaranteed.
