NEIGHBOURS have told of their shock after police swooped on their quiet street in a £200k drugs bust.

Residents were floored when officers from the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency emerged from a house with a massive haul of cocaine.

Horrified families looked on as police carried out an extensive search of the half-a-million pound property (pictured left) on Sunday afternoon.

Several hours later cops were spotted removing items from the home - later confirmed to be FIVE kilos of the class A drug.

One woman from the area told The Gazette of her disbelief.

She said: "It is a fantastic place, an absolutely idyllic place for kids to grow up and it's so safe - but this is unnerving."

Police turned up at 2.30pm to raid the Brookfield property which is currently lying empty.

The four bedroom house in Darluith Park is on the market for almost £500,000.

It is thought that the owner moved in only 18 months ago but has not been staying at the address recently.

A neighbour who asked not to be named said: "It is a really nice street, everyone gets on really well with everyone.

"We do a lot as a community, lots of the kids play together, it's really nice."

"The people that lived there have never really fitted in.

"They never tried to get to know everybody and we tried to be friendly but they didn't want to be part of the community."

The police have confirmed that they are following a positive line of inquiry.

Detective chief superintendent Allan Moffat, head of Investigations Group, SCDEA said: "Too many of Scotland's communities are affected by the fear, intimidation and violence associated with the illegal drugs trade.

"Working in partnership with Scotland's police forces and other agencies, we are determined to target those responsible for this illicit trade and to bring them to justice.

"If members of the public have concerns about suspicious activity in their community I would encourage them to report it to the police."

Members of the public can report any concerns to their local police station or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
