The generous local, who has said he doesn’t want publicity, read about little Riley Lafferty’s plight in The Gazette and contacted us in a bid to help his family.

Two-year-old Riley can only walk with a frame and splints and needs a specially-adapted bike to help strengthen the muscles on his legs.

His family also launched an appeal alongside our newspaper for a football team to join in on a charity match they have organised at the grounds of Johnstone Burgh FC this month.

Now one kind-hearted resident has vowed to help Riley realise his dream by pledging £1,000 towards the cause.

The anonymous businessman said: “My niece also has cerebral palsy so when I saw Riley’s story in The Gazette I wanted to help him.

“I do a lot of fundraising for Bobath, which is a charity for people with cerebral palsy, but when I saw Riley had to walk with his frame I thought it was such a sin for him.

“My niece also had an adapted bike when she was younger and it helped her so much.

“It’s great to be able to help someone in the community, especially Riley.” When The Gazette contacted Riley’s mum Kim, 21, and grandmother Diane, 43, to tell them the good news, they were jumping for joy.

His grateful mum Kim said: “It's amazing!"
