Suzanne Carruthers passed away after taking ill at her home in Howwood Road, Johnstone, on Monday afternoon at around 1.15pm.

The much-loved mum-of-five was well-known in the town, having lived there for 15 years providing handmade gifts and personalised accessories for local parents and youngsters.

Yesterday her heartbroken daughter, Aimée Carruthers, spoke of her grief in losing the mum she also described as her “best friend.” Aimée, who has a five-year-old son named Jayden, told The Gazette: “It’s a complete shock to the entire family.

“I have lost my mum and my best friend. I feel as if I’m in a horrible nightmare. No words can describe how broken I am.

“I’d spoken to her earlier that morning and she had been ill as she had a sickness bug but I never thought it would come to this.

“Her partner had phoned the doctor that morning but when I went to see her later she just deteriorated, I knew something wasn’t right.

“She was the best mum and gran anyone could ask for, words can’t explain how devastated we all are.” Suzanne, who is mum to eldest daughter Aimée, 22, James, 19, Scott, 16, Victoria, 13, and Kayleigh, 11, had suffered from severe asthma and had a history of medical problems, although it is yet to be confirmed whether these were linked to her death.

Police confirmed Ms Carruthers had died shortly after a family doctor visited her home and said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Paramedics were called to the home she shared with her partner Darren McBride, 37, in attempts to revive Suzanne but sadly she never pulled through.

Aimée said the tragedy has left her entire family “completely in shock” but said her mother would be remembered as a “kind and amazing person who would do anything for anybody.” “She was just a big, bubbly person with a big personality,” the emotional Aimée said. “Everybody in Johnstone knew her as she’d lived there so long and she grew up with everybody, she would chat away to everybody and anybody.

“My mum used to work as a nail technician but she hadn’t worked for a while because of her health problems.

“But she was so creative and talented and a made lots of nice gifts such as Frozen hairbands and pram covers.

“She sold a lot of them at the school markets and had wanted to start a business. Sadly she never got the chance.” News of Suzanne’s sudden death has also shook large segments of the community, with many turning to social media to pay tribute to the popular grandmother.

One shattered friend said: “Cant believe your gone. Heaven has gained another Angel. R.I.P Suzanne.”
