Writing in his regular column in The Gazette, the Renfrewshire South MSP urged parents and residents to contact the authorities if they see anyone risking their lives at Milliken Park Station.

His warning comes after we revealed youngsters were playing a crazy game of dare by standing on the tracks as trains came hurtling through the station which already has a history of tragedy.

Mr Henry said: “It was alarming to hear that children have been spotted playing the deadly game of chicken at Milliken Park Station in Johnstone where kids take part in a perilous dare which sees them ‘stare down’ a train before jumping away at the last minute to avoid impact.

“British Transport Police Inspector Gary Brown is increasing patrols around the area and is hoping to work alongside schools in my constituency to raise safety awareness and highlight how lethal these dares can be.

“I am right behind concerned members of Johnstone Community Council and local Labour Cllr Derek Bibby in their plea to parents to warn children about playing these danger games which sometimes, sadly, end in tragedy.

“If you see teens putting their lives at risk on the tracks I would ask you to call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text them on 61016.” Natalie Miller, 25, and her boyfriend David Forbes, 29, lost their lives when they were hit by a train at Milliken Park Station, Johnstone on October 12, 2011.

Unfortunately, the decision to take a shortcut across the train tracks at the Johnstone station ended with fatal consequences.

Natalie and her boyfriend had been enjoying an evening at the home David shared with his family in Johnstone on the night of the fatal accident.

They left when Natalie began to feel unwell, with David offering to take her back to Renfrew. However minutes later tragedy ensued.

The Gazette reported last week how reckless children have been dicing with death by playing games with trains in Johnstone.

As part of a series of twisted dares, the youngsters will ‘stare down’ a train at the last minute before leaping to avoid the deadly impact.

Inspector Gary Brown, a British Transport Police (BTP) officer with responsibility for policing the area around Milliken Park Station, told The Gazette they are now probing the idiotic behaviour.

He added: “Route crime, including trespassing on the railway, is a stupid activity. It is not only illegal it is extremely dangerous to the individual committing the offence and others using the rail network.

“We are grateful this had been brought to our attention and BTP officers will be working closely with our partners to educate children about these dangers and the consequences of their actions.

“We will be increasing patrols in the area and contacting the local schools to arrange a railway safety awareness input to pupils.” Anyone with information about offences being committed on the railway is urged to contact BTP immediately on 0800 40 50 40 or by texting 61016.
