Officers are investigating CCTV footage of the incident which happened in the town’s High Street at around 5am on July 11.
A man was spotted hurtling an advertising sign through the outside of the Coral Bookmakers shop before stumbling into the store.
Inspector Cassie Glass, of Johnstone Community Police, said it was later discovered he had stolen a number of scratchcards during the incident.
Police enquiries are ongoing.
