Brian Slaven was getting ready to leave for Scotland’s biggest music festival in July this year when officers caught him with cocaine and ecstasy.

Slaven was just packing up his camping gear to head to the three-day event on July 10 this year when officers, acting on a tip off, arrived at a house in Johnstone.

Once inside the home, in the town’s Thrush Place, they found 30g of cocaine, worth £1,400, and ecstasy worth £1,000.

But Slaven insists he had no intention of selling the huge haul of drugs, claiming it was for him and his friends to use over the course of the weekend.

Slaven was arrested and held in police custody over the weekend pending a court appearance.

As they were held in police custody they missed out on the event, which took place for the first time at Strathallan Castle, in Perthshire, and saw dance acts such as David Guetta, Avicii, The Prodigy and Fatboy Slim taking to the stage.

On the Monday morning, after the festival was over, they were released from custody without appearing in court and Slaven, 26, was later served with a citation detailing the charges against him and telling him to appear at court.

In August he sent a letter informing prosecutors he was pleading guilty to two charges of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs.

He admitted twice breaking Section 4(3)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 by being concerned in the supply of cocaine and ecstasy and sentence was deferred for him to be assessed by social workers.

But when Slaven returned to the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday (Tuesday), Sheriff James Spy was unable to sentence him as he had yet to be interviewed by anyone from the social work department.

Defence solicitor Charlie McCusker told the court the interview had not taken place because Slaven had moved house since the incident, and the letter detailing his appointment time and date had been sent to his old address in Johnstone’s MacDowall Street.

The lawyer explained: “They found him in the house as he was going to T In The Park.

“He had his camping gear with him and he was on his way to T In The Park.

“His position is it was for social supply — for him and his friends for the weekend.” Sheriff Spy adjourned the case so Slaven can make a rearranged meeting with social workers and was told to return to court next month to learn his fate.
