The 79-year-old took ill in the B & M store at the Phoenix Retail Park, Linwood on Monday morning around 10.40am.
Emergency services attended a short time later but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The death is being treated as non-suspicious.” Staff at B & M closed the store immediately following the tragedy as a mark of respect.
A spokesman for the retailer said: “Our Linwood colleagues would like to send their thoughts and condolences to the family. We would like to thank both the customers and staff for their compassion shown.” A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
