A MEMORIAL has been created to honour a Paisley teenager who died after she was run over at a petrol station in Linwood.

Eilish Herron was just 17-years-old when she was hit by an elderly driver who was reversing his car at ASDA Linwood petrol station on September 10 2014.

The family of the young netball player, who was voted Young Sports Star of the Year in Renfrewshire in 2013, received incredible support since she passed away just a month before her 18th birthday.

In October 2014 her loved ones set up a Just Giving page to raise cash for Yorkhill Hospital where grief-stricken John and Shanneal Herron described their daughter Eilish as “the brightest of stars.”

Within just a week they had raised an incredible £4,465 — almost eight times their target of £500.

They said: “To say that we are devastated by the loss of our daughter Eilish is by far the biggest understatement.

"No-one could have been prouder of their daughter than we were."

And ASDA Linwood thought it was appropriate to to bring in 2016 with a memorial to honour Eilish.

The move to create the memorial was led by ASDA Linwood store manager Scott Gregor who supported the family after the accident.

He said: "Following the tragic event in September 2014, our store colleagues wanted to do something to remember Eilish's young life and to demonstrate our sincere condolences to her family and friends.

"With the support of Eilish's family we have erected this plaque as a lasting memorial to her and hope that even in the smallest of ways it brings comfort to those who know and loved her and that she will never be forgotten."

Eilish was also recently remembered at a popular youth awards ceremony where she had an award she won in 2013 named in her honour.

The Eilish Herron Young Sports Person of the Year award was presented at the fifth Positive About Youth awards in Paisley Town Hall in November 2015.
