A SAVVY shopper got more than she bargained for when she found a gold locket in a bag she purchased from a charity shop.

Laura Surgenor, 33, went shopping for a Mother’s Day present when she spotted the accessory at the Salvation Army at Johnstone High Street.

The housewife from Linwood was very pleased with her purchase which she nabbed for £19.99 on February 17.

However, upon inspecting the new bag when she arrived home, Laura found a small gold locket inside.

She said: “When I found it I felt really sad.

“It was in the side zipper so I’m guessing it had been placed there to be kept safe.

“It’s obviously been loved and someone will be missing it as they may not have realised it was in the bag.

“We have all put something in a safe place then completely forgotten where.

“If I was in a similar situation and lost a sentimental piece of jewellery I’d be devastated.

“Something like this brings back beautiful memories so if it were me, I would do almost anything to have it back.

“I hope I can help that happen to who ever lost the pendant.”

So far there has been a huge response from people sharing Laura’s Facebook post calling out for the owner online, with many hoping to help reunite the locket with its owner too.

She said: “I think it’s struck a chord as it looks a very old pair of pictures.

“The chances are it’s the only copy of them so they can’t be replaced."

You can get a closer look at the mystery locket on our website the-gazette.co.uk.

“Facebook seems to have brought the local community together many other times when someone was in need so I thought this would get the biggest audience in the quickest time.”

The locket shows sign of wear and looks fairly old. The first picture is a man wearing an army uniform and the gentleman on the left of the other picture is wearing a Royal Navy class two uniform.

Laura added: “It had no chain which is unusual, so that’s what makes me think that the chain broke and was put in the smaller inside pocket for safety and possibly forgotten about.

“I’d say the owner is a lady in her 40s or 50s going by the style of the bag.

“That’s not to say the pendant wasn’t handed down by someone older as it doesn’t look modern, more like something an older lady would have.

“It’s a very poor quality picture which suggests it’s an old camera that took it and the clothes the people are wearing indicate a family with an army and navy background.

“If I managed to find the owner, I’d be elated. Just because it’s small doesn’t reflect the fact it could mean the world to someone.

“If I don’t find the owner, I know I’ve tried and I’ll keep it safe regardless.”
