PUPILS from Trinity High School have raised more than £8,000 for good causes.

The kind-hearted youngsters have taken part in a number of fundraising activities including a non-uniform day where they were asked to donate tinned goods instead of the usual pound.

This saw over 100 food parcels being distributed to various good causes around the Renfrewshire area.

S6 pupils raised £1,000 for St Vincent’s Hospice in Howwood after spending the day in Glasgow participating in a street can collection.

Meanwhile, pupils from S1-S5 were busy in the RE periods reflecting on the importance of helping those in need.

Pupils considered ways in which they could do something to make a difference, and so the month of December was spent participating in sponsored events such as silences, dances, movie-thons and bake-offs.

Not to be outdone, staff were busy baking, bringing in raffle prizes and attending lots of coffee mornings.

Pupils were then given the opportunity to nominate the charities that they feel special connections with and representatives from nine different charities were invited into the school to be presented with donations.

Representatives from St Vincent’s Hospice, The Cardinal Winning Prolife Initiative, Breathing Space, The Ozanam Club, Mary’s Meals, The Brighest Star, Our Lady of the Wayside Club, Cancer Support Scotland, St Margaret’s Children and Family Care Society and Lamont Farm were among the charities who received donations.

The Catenian Association were also on hand to distribute cheques to two lucky pupils who will be heading to Bangalore this June to work with the charity The Association of People with Disabilities.
