TRIBUTES are being paid to a young dad who was killed after an accident at a recycling plant in Linwood.

Martin Kane, 28, died at William Tracey when he was working with heavy machinery.

Police cordoned off an area of the depot while a probe into the tragedy got under way.

Friends and family have taken to social media to praise Martin who was well thought of in the area for being a "happy and nice guy".

Kirsty McArthur, who works at the Lighthouse bar in Greenock said: "When you work in a pub for a long time you meet loads of people and some of them leave lasting impressions - none more than the pub football team.

"The nicest bunch of boys I've ever met.

"The one thing that always stood out was how strong their friendship is.

"I'm deeply saddened by the news of Martin, one of the most happy-go-lucky boys I have ever met.

"Words can't explain how heartbroken I am for you all."

Martin, who was known for his love of sports, was engaged to be married.

Friend Gordy Leith also offered his condolences to his family on social media.

He said: "I'm shocked beyond belief. He was some boy."

Martin died after an accident at the Burnbrae Road depot around 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Bosses at the the recycling plant were among those who paid tribute.

A spokesman said: "William Tracey Group is deeply saddened to confirm that an employee has died as a result of an accident.

"Our first thoughts are with our employee's family and colleagues as we support them at this tragic time."

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the time but sadly Martin could not be saved.

Police Scotland is still to establish the cause of the accident.

A spokesman said: "Police were called to an industrial unit after reports of a man being injured.

"Emergency services attended but the man died from his injuries a short time later.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
