DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a teenage girl was left 'traumatised' from being sexually assaulted in Linwood.

At around 9.45pm on Saturday, a 14-year-old girl was with a group of friends in a wooded area behind a sports centre in Brediland Road.

The group went their separate ways to go home while the girl went back into the woods to search for something she had lost.

She was then approached from behind by a man who sexually assaulted her.

Police say the man was not known to the victim and has been described as being in his 20s with dark stubble and was wearing a dark hooded top and dark trousers.

The man left the wooded area following the incident and the victim ran home to tell her mum, who then contacted police.

Detective Sergeant Alex Allardyce from Paisley CID said: “This was an extremely traumatic ordeal for the victim and specialist officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area near to the sports centre on Brediland Road around 9.45pm on Saturday and may have noticed a man matching the above description, or anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Paisley CID via 101, quoting incident number 4789 of Saturday 21 April 2018.
