Is Linwood that dismal?
LINWOOD could be branded Scotland's "most dismal" town.
It has been shortlisted in the annual Carbuncle Awards after nominations from fed-up townsfolk.
The awards highlight "the worst buildings, towns and planning disasters in Scotland", with the 'winner' receiving a makeover.
Previous recipients of the 'Plook on the Plinth' award include concrete-haven Cumbernauld, gloomy Glenrothes and John O'Groats.
Amongst the key complaints against Linwood is its run-down town centre.
But many residents are in favour of the town winning, unlike householders in fellow shortlisted towns - including Dumbarton, Nairn and Ardrossan.
One resident said on the Carbuncle Awards website: "Bring it on! Linwood needs the publicity to get Tesco off their butts to regenerate the town centre which they have been promising now for a number of years."
Renfrewshire Council admitted Linwood faces the same challenges as many other towns, but said there are positive plans in the horizon.
A council spokesman added: "Where Linwood is different is that it has a strong sense of community which is helping to drive forward renewal.
"Major developments and investment are well underway to improve the area."
The deadline for nominations in the Carbuncle Awards is Thursday September 15.
